LONDON: Sheep have been trained to identify the encounters of superstars, including past US Leader Barack Obama, by University or college of Cambridge researchers who hope it could benefit understanding neuro degenerative diseases.

In a very specially outfitted pen, sheep were shown pictures of folks on two computer monitors, in one area would be an undiscovered person and on the other would be one of four superstars.

The pet would get a reward of food for choosing the photo of the star by breaking an infrared beam near to the screen exhibiting it. If indeed they chose the incorrect picture, a buzzer would appear plus they would get no reward.

The sheep eventually were able to identify the familiar face eight times from every 10.

The band of superstars the sheep were trained to identify included celebrities Emma Watson and Jake Gyllenhaal, BBC newsreader Fiona Bruce and Obama.

“We’ve shown that sheep have advanced face-recognition abilities, comparable with those of humans and monkeys,” Professor Jenny Morton, who led the study, said in a statement.

Not only is it shown images of the stars facing forward, experts also examined the pets or animals’ ability to identify the encounters in photographs extracted from other angles.

The pets or animals’ success rate dropped by around 15 percent when offered the encounters at a fresh angle, a quantity experts said was much like that seen when humans perform the duty.

Scientists try to use the sheep as models to comprehend disorders of the mind, such as Huntington’s disease, that develops over quite a while and has an effect on cognitive abilities.
